Braces, Inman aligners and invisalign; the future is here already
Braces have been the bane of children for far too many decades, but today dental science is very advanced and the improvements are being welcomed by adults with teeth problems as well. A brace as we all know them are very visible and do a great job, but they are cumbersome. There is still a need for these especially with children, and they work by manipulating the teeth into a position that straightens them over time. The patient needs to have regular visits to the dentist to have the wires that are attached to the braces adjusted to do this. Everything is very visible and on the front of the teeth, but there is an adult brace that is just the opposite. The Inman brace is a plastic model that fits over the teeth and manipulates the movement of the teeth using a carefully calibrated set of pulleys that are adjusted every fortnight. The Inman aligner has a bar that sits across the front of the brace, and it is recommended for the front bottom and top sets. The procedure starts with a consultation that involves a series of digital x-rays and digital pictures taken, from this a very clever system turns these into a video computer generated image of what your teeth look like, then the film will take the patient through the whole procedure, bit by bit. Before your very eyes you will be able to see the way your teeth will be manipulated and how they will end up, genius or what? The other brilliant thing is that you only have to wear the brace when you need to, for instance if you`re going to a business lunch or dinner, you can take it off and slip it in your pocket for the duration of the meal. Then when you`re finished you can simply dental floss and clean your teeth and slip the brace back on. If you prefer to have a brace that is more see through than the Inman or you have a problem with your back teeth as well, then the Invisalign is the one for you, as the name indicates it is more invisible, though not entirely. It also works in a similar way to the Inman in that the built in pulleys and pullers are adjusted every 2 weeks and it is also removable for cleaning, eating and sleeping. Science really has come a long way hasn`t it?
