Bridging the Gap’s
You begin your life with 32 teeth. You start with a set of baby teeth which are meant to be lost. They are soft and fragile, as they fall out naturally, they are replaced with your permanent set of adult teeth. While the adult teeth are much hardier than their counterpart, they are not indestructible. As such, long term damage can cause us to lose these teeth, which unfortunately will not lead to another set of new tooth growth. Once gone, these teeth will not come back.
Thankfully we have advanced the science of dentistry to help win this war with the invention of dental implants. These implants come in a variety of forms to choose from. Bridges to dentures all the way to individual tooth implants.
The old ways are still available, but may not be the best route to go. Bridges, for example, typically require the filing and reshaping of any tooth neighboring the area you are trying to replace. After they are shaped they then need to be fitted with crowns and then the replacement tooth is attached to your newly formed teeth to act as supports. While this does serve its purpose, this crude method weakens the surrounding healthy teeth, and long term this can lead to further dental complications. Luckily, bridges may now be permanently implanted into the jaw bone allowing for far superior support as well as not requiring weakening surrounding teeth to aid the newly replaced tooth or teeth.
While it is a more invasive procedure, it provides you with a superior quality and strength, in turn making even the simple process of eating enjoyable as it is intended to be. If this isn’t the right choice for you, then you always have the tried and true procedures available.
